Transport / Waka

Transport allows New Zealanders to connect with the world and with each other. It is an essential element of daily life and a critical component of the national economy. Evolving technologies and expanding transportation networks have significantly impacted the cultural and physical environments of Aotearoa New Zealand. Numerous forms of transport are extensively documented as the focus of attention, and in the background, of photographs and other media, and these are well represented at the Hocken Collections. Here we present a sample of material from across the collections that is organised by selected transportation modes.
