In 1946 the organisation became the Women's Division of Federated Farmers, and in 1999 changed their name to Rural Women New Zealand. The organisation's early aim was to help better the conditions of rural women and children, through improved medical facilities and obtaining visiting help. The organisation also promoted the welfare of Home, Country and Empire and the ideals of good citizenship. Educational activities were an integral part of branch programmes. Domestic crafts were heavily emphasised although personal development skills were also encouraged.
