DescriptionA circular luggage label for the Fox Glacier Hostel.History / BiographyThe Fox Glacier Hostel, located in South Westland, was constructed in 1928 by brothers Michael (Mick) and John Sullivan, who also built a power plant to supply electricity for the 40 room wooden hostel. After the granting of a liquor license in the 1950s the business was known as the Fox Glacier Hotel.
Mick Sullivan ran the business until the 1940s when it was taken over by his son Mick Junior and daughter Mary. Mary and her husband Douglas Kerr eventually became the managers until her death in 1986. It was then run by Anne (Mary's daughter) and her husband Roger Smith until it was sold to the Plaza Hotel group in 1995.
