Information about other items can be found on the Hākena catalogue, through the Library Catalogues link above.History / BiographyThe Dunedin branch of the Young Men's Christian Association, commonly known as the YMCA, was established in 1874 and thrived for several years before it was dissolved in the 1880s. It was re-established in 1901. It was an interdenominational organisation which ran many activities for young men. It began providing board for a few young men in 1905 and in 1911 opened a new building with meeting areas and sports facilities as well as hostel accommodation. A replacement hostel opened in 1980. The branch wound up in the early 2000s.
