His father was the local Presbyterian Minister. Gerald joined the army in June 1917, serving in the 24th Coy, 1st Battalion, Otago Regiment. After passing signalling exams at Trentham he sailed for England where he was resident at Sling Camp, Salisbury before serving in France. Gerald Paulin died on 20 October 1964.History / BiographyWhile serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Gerald kept a diary and wrote regularly to his parents. The collection includes these letters and his father's replies. The letters reveal how important the Christian faith was to Gerald and his father. Diaries, photographs and other papers relating to Gerald's war service are also included in the collection.
