(Edward Arthur), 1882-1966DescriptionAn album entitled 'On and Around Stewart Island, New Zealand' containing 518 captioned photographs taken all over Stewart Island by George Turner in the 1920s. It includes a series of photographs relating to the Rosshavet Norwegian whaling company base. These show the stages of hauling up a whale chaser, the interior of machine shops where the boats were overhauled, staff, chasers tied up for the winter as well as E.A. Phillips photographs of the C.A. Larsen (Ship) before and after it struck a rock and photographs taken by the Chief Engineer of the Sir James Clark Ross (Ship) of whaling in the Ross Sea. Other photographs document mutton birding, including original prints of Turner's photographs published in the Otago Witness in 1927.
