He performed throughout New Zealand and overseas as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. He was also teacher and staff member of the music departments at the University of Canterbury and the University of Otago. From 1985 to 1988 he was Dean of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Canterbury, and the university awarded him an honorary Doctor of Music degree in 2000. He died in Christchurch in 2011.
