Information about other items can be found on the Hākena catalogue, through the Library Catalogues link above.History / BiographySir John Walsh was born in Melbourne in 1911, married Enid Morris in 1934 and served in the Royal Australian Air Force as a medical officer from 1945 to 1946. He arrived in New Zealand in 1946 when he was appointed Dean of the Dental School, a position he held until retiring in 1972. He invented the first working air-turbine high speed dental drill that paved the way for modern drills, was awarded the Queen's coronation medal in 1953 and knighted for services to dentistry in 1960.
