In 1900 St Mary's was raised to parish status. A new church was designed in the early 1920s but only the chancel was built and existing buildings were adapted. Difficult times led to St Mary's reduction to parochial status in 1937. Parish status was regained in 1947 and expansion during the 1960s included a new church building (incorporating the old chancel) which was dedicated on 9 July 1966. St Mary's celebrated its centennial in 1983.
