Many of these were kept in registered filing systems (five different filing systems have been used to date). Items not filed by these systems have been arranged by subject. In addition to books and files, the collection includes numerous photographs and a few audiovisual materials, plans, posters, and banners.

As the university developed, it grew into a large organisation offering services and support to students, while advocating for their interests.
