Born in Morrinsville in 1921, he studied in New Zealand, and from the beginning of 1945 was a junior member of the psychology faculty at the University of Otago. In 1945, Janet Frame met Money for the first time through attending his psychology lectures and he later became a noted friend and supporter. Money became known for his research into human sexual behaviour and gender, and was published widely. He was Director of the Psychohormonal Research Unit at Johns Hopkins University in the United States. He had a long-standing personal interest in arts and literature. He was a personal friend of several New Zealand writers and artists. John Money died in July 2006.
