From 1878 Michael Donaghy junior ran the Dunedin branch, until the company was sold to a Dunedin partnership in 1881. In 1889 'M. Donaghy & Co.' became a limited company, and in 1895 it became 'Donaghy's Rope and Twine Co. Ltd'. Over time the company expanded, with manufacturing plants in Dunedin, Auckland and Waikuku. The company name was changed to 'Donaghys Industries Ltd' in 1968. While Donaghys is associated with rope and cordage, it also attempted diversification into food exports, such as deer and eel products. Donaghys is now a multinational company with manufacturing facilities in Christchurch, Dunedin and Melbourne. The head office of Donaghys Industries remained in Dunedin until 1990 and the head office of Donaghys Limited (the corporate group) remained in the city until 1998. The company is now based in Christchurch.
