In 1910 the company was registered to make malleable iron and semi steel castings. During World War I vast quantities of small and large castings, ranging from boot protectors to large gearings in semi steel were produced. In 1925 the company entered the steel casting field and has continued since then to produce high and low carbon, manganese, and other alloy steels for general engineering, agricultural implements, cement crusher plants, earth moving and logging industries. During World War II the Company made castings for the mine sweepers built at Port Chalmers. The original managing director, W.A. Wilkinson, died in 1949. On 1 July 1964, Bradford Kendall Limited of Australia took over the whole capital of the family business, and in 2002 it was sold to Bradken Resources Pty, of Newcastle, Australia. It traded as Bradken Dunedin until 2020, when Bradken announced the closure of all of its New Zealand operations.
