They date from 1864-1865 and are of Otago mainly up around Wānaka and the Maniototo and also the goldmining areas of Kawarau and Gabriel's Gully. There is also one shot of Green Island coal mine, one of the town of Hampden and several of the Clutha River. Although some of the photographs are scenic, many of them document the transformation of the landscape through human intervention such as mining, road and bridge building and settlement.History / BiographyThe photographs were taken by Joseph Perry in collaboration with Dr Hector as part of a project to produce one hundred views of Otago.
