DescriptionA painted tin sign advertising Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Co. Ltd products.History / BiographyThe Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Company Limited was formed on 5th June 1896. A mill was built in Milton and commenced manufacturing blankets and woollen yarns on 19 November 1897. A fire destroyed the mill on 28 April 1901 but it was rebuilt and operating by the following year. Branch factories were added later at Dunedin and Lawrence. In 1962 the company was merged into Alliance Textiles and the mill continued operations until it was closed in 1999. (From: Bruce Woollen Manufacturing Co.
