The diary also contains genealogical notes relating to the Wilkinson family. Other items in the collection include letters of reference for Wilkinson (1871), a letter from William Colenso to Wilkinson (1885) and published parliamentary papers relating to native lands (1873-1886).
There are a number of manuscripts in Te Reo Māori, mostly relating to land court proceedings and including genealogical records. Also included are publications in Māori and a photograph of Wilkinson's wife, Hariata te RauRau (Wilkinson), also known as Mahora Totorewa. The photograph may have been taken on her wedding day.

He arrived in New Zealand in 1864 and was employed as a surveyor of confiscated Maori land in the Waikato. He subsequently worked as an interpreter to the magistrate at the Hauraki goldfields and in 1878 he was appointed assistant land purchase officer for Coromandel and Thames. Wilkinson later became principal native officer in Waikato, native agent at Alexandra (now Pirongia), and president of the Māori council at Otorohanga. He died on 4 February 1906.
