More than half the photographs are of South Island scenes. These feature well known beauty spots, particularly around Fiordland. The other major genre is townscapes. Many of these feature important public buildings, wharf scenes or well known streets. Some show people in recreational activities boating or at the beach and there are two taken at Ohinemutu of a hangi and a Māori group beside the meeting house, Tamatekapua.
